Artful Move
I read recently that “in the art world, geography is destiny.” While this reference was to the migration of artists (as rents rise and neighborhoods are rezoned, new styles and movements take shape), “geography” also comes into play this month at ArtHamptons. From July 13 through July 15, everyone from the passionate collector to the merely interested browser will converge in Bridgehampton at the Sculpture Fields of Nova’s Ark on Millstone Road to view a veritable extravaganza of art. The geographic move here is just 1,000 yards from the 2011 site to a bucolic 97-acre nature preserve featuring a dramatic sculpture park. ■ Last year, more than 9,500 Hamptonites streamed through the aisles to experience artwork curated from 80 galleries, according to Rick Friedman, president of ArtHamptons. To avoid the crush and be among the first to view, reserve, and buy treasures before the fair opens to the public, I suggest you get tickets to the July 12 opening night preview party, which is sponsored by HC&G and benefits East Hampton’s LongHouse Reserve. And be sure to visit HC&G’s own VIP Platinum lounge—furnished by the über-chic Ligne Roset—during the three-day fair. For more about ArtHamptons and how to attend the VIP party, go to arthamptons.com or cottages-gardens.com. ■ See you there!
