Kitchen Inspiration

I love my kitchen in January. On the twelfth day of Christmas, the holiday decorations come down and, as much as I love them, I am delighted by the simplicity and clean look that has returned. There is always a new item or two acquired during the season’s festivities or pulled from a closet that stays out and looks wonderful. ■ And then there are the ideas for a bit of redecorating gleaned from other people’s homes at holiday parties and from this year’s holiday house tours. A built-in wok, a glass-fronted wine cabinet, dishwasher drawers! The Greenwich Historical Society’s Antiquarius Holiday House Tour showcased homes that, of course, had fantastic kitchens with zinc tables, stone floors, pizza ovens, and a whole lot more. ■ It seems that I am no different from our readers in Connecticut who seem to be perpetually redoing their kitchens. Recent research showed that 50 percent of CTC&G readers planned to buy kitchen, bath and building products in the following year. A top ROI expenditure for homeowners, this home improvement captures the top share of wallet in home luxury purchases, according to the Home Luxury Report from Unity Marketing. ■ For those looking for inspiration and guidance, come to the NuKitchens event sponsored by CTC&G in Norwalk on January 23 and hear Editorial Director D.J. Carey talk about kitchen trends that she’s seeing right now and find out how to make them work for you. See wonderful products from Greenwich Contemporary Lighting, Plain & Fancy, Sub-Zero & Wolf, Artistic Tile, Hafele and Heritage Wide Plank Flooring. ■ Not up for all that work right now? Simply go to our Deeds & Don’ts column on page 32 and buy a new house that has a top-of-the-line kitchen already installed! ■ Happy New Year!
