Try, Try Again

“Where are you?” wailed my friend, standing in the lobby of the Bow Tie theater in Norwalk, with tickets and popcorn in hand. “The movie has started!” ■ It was last Sunday afternoon, and I was on a conference call that ran late. There was nothing to do but see the next movie, whatever it was. It turned out to be a movie called About Time. Its time-travel description made my heart sink. But, hey, I was late, so let’s keep up a good face and run on in. ■ Starring the incomparable Bill Nighy with Rachel McAdams, it was enchanting. Tim is a decent young man who has inherited the ability to go back in time. While he finds out that his unique gift can’t save him from the sorrows and ups and downs that affect all families, everywhere, he discovers that he can change his part. ■ As we approach the holidays and plan to spend traditional times with our families and friends, doing the same things we do year after year, we also have the opportunity for a do-over! We won’t change the behavior of over-served Uncle Frank or our bossy older sister, but this year we can change our part. ■ So this holiday season, my wish for you, dear readers, is that you view each day as a do-over—where your actions will be loving, forgiving and supportive, so that you and all around you will have the best holidays ever! ■ See you next year.
