Building Trends

It’s spring and a redo is on everyone’s mind! While we referenced the national renovation trend from the Harvard Study last issue, it seems that Connecticut has renovation fever. According to our recent online renovation survey, 78 percent of our readers plan to renovate their homes in the next 12 months. ■ And it looks like the changes will be big, because 72 percent of you plan to use a contractor. The top three projects are bath (51 percent), kitchen (38 percent), and landscape and pools (34 percent). ■ We are delighted to find out that 60 percent of you got your inspiration and ideas for the kitchen and 53 percent for the bathroom from Connecticut Cottages & Gardens. We have made a commitment to provide our advertisers and design professionals with timely information directly from the marketplace, so that they may take advantage of the data to build their businesses. ■ I am happy to share the full study results with you, so please call or e-mail me to arrange a presentation. Also, a big thank you to Klaff’s for awarding a $500 gift certificate to a lucky participant in our survey. ■ Another great opportunity for design inspiration is our fifth annual Innovation in Design Awards, which celebrate the best of the best on Tuesday, May 24. This year’s honoree is the world- renowned designer Bunny Williams. Tickets are available online at our website: cottages-gardens.com. Mingle with design professionals from Westchester and Connecticut, plus enjoy dinner and an award presentation in the Garden Pavilion of the Hilton Stamford Hotel. A percentage of ticket sales from the awards dinner and all proceeds from the raffle benefit Yale School of Architecture’s charity: Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven. I hope to see you there!
