Mixing Things Up

Designer Matthew Patrick Smyth shows how to mix antiques with modern furnishings.

Marianne Howaston, CEO Letter SFCandGAs an antiques lover and also an enthusiast for clean modern lines, I have often thought that decorating one’s home should not have to be strictly confined to one or the other. With that in mind, under the direction of Editorial Director D.J. Carey, CTC&G has embarked on a four-part program to showcase successful mixes of antiques with modern furnishings.

Dubbed “New Mix Masters,” top designers will curate a dedicated space at Avery & Dash Collections (formerly Harbor View Center for Antiques) in Stamford. For the first space, which debuted in November, über-decorator Matthew Patrick Smyth captured a global aesthetic with an array of furnishings that cross centuries and borders, all surrounded by a rich backdrop of Century by Benjamin Moore paint from sponsor Ring’s End.

To see the finished room, check out the “New Mix Masters” story on page 30 of this month’s issue. Better yet, stop by Avery & Dash and tour it in person through January.
