Lockwood Matthews Mansion

A range like this? You will recall that last year at the CTC&G Innovation in Design Awards, we announced the formation of IC&G (Iconic Cottages & Gardens)—an initiative where we would spotlight buildings and gardens in our state that needed help with their preservation and restoration. We identified the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk as our first IC&G project and have been delighted by the outpouring of support. ■ Our first goal was to raise funds to complete the restoration of the music room. Cary Kravet of Kravet Inc. has kindly offered to re-create the lilac embroidered music-room curtains based only on a description from the auction catalog when they were sold in 1875! ■ Last night, at this year’s IDAs, we announced that the next room being considered for restoration is the kitchen. While we have been unable to locate any photographs of the original kitchen, we have a photograph of a kitchen from that period. And look at that magnificent range! It is long gone from the mansion, but surely someone must have seen one somewhere. I am asking you, dear readers, to keep your eyes open for such a magnificent piece (1865–1875) that would really bring the kitchen to life.
