The CTC&G Innovation  in Design Awards were even bigger and better this year! Celebrated for eight of the 10 years of CTC&G’s existence, we were delighted that the entries hit a higher level than ever before and that the recipient of our 2014 Innovator Award is a giant in the industry. I am not referring to the height of John Edelman, although he is indeed tall, but to the contribution he makes every day to the world of design. When John Edelman was appointed president of Design Within Reach in 2009, the company’s chairman, Glenn Krevlin, described him as a charismatic, creative and team-oriented executive with an approachable style. “He has a strong knowledge of and affinity for the modern home furnishings aesthetic and is considered to be an industry expert in ‘modern,’” said Krevlin. What delights me is the staggering number of designers represented by the company: from design legends Charles and Ray Eames, Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen and Le Corbusier to today’s stars—Connecticut’s own Jens Risom as well as Bassam Fellows, Sandy Chilewich and Jeffrey Bernett. For me, a walk through the wonderful DWR showroom in Stamford is a walk through design’s history and its future.
