Good Housing News

I stopped by an open house in New Canaan recently that was hosted by Ileana Barns-Slavin of William Raveis. The lovely stone-front Colonial in Silvermine was buzzing as a steady stream of people came and went. “It’s been like this all day,” said Ileana, “and I am running out of materials.” ■ What is the allure of open houses? Why is CTC&G’s iconic “Deeds & Don’ts” real estate editorial so popular? Those answers and much more are revealed in the latest CTC&G survey, which was conducted at the beginning of this year. ■ The CTC&G Real Estate Survey 2013 confirms that our readers enjoy reading about real estate in the region (71 percent); like to keep up on home values in the area; and enjoy looking at homes on the market! ■ Two-thirds of the respondents have taken action in response to real estate advertising or editorial in CTC&G, including looking up a property online for more information or mentioning a featured property to a friend, relative or colleague. ■ The big news is that 44 percent of our readers plan to buy a primary residence and 41 percent plan to buy in the next six months to two years. That’s wonderful news for all of us—particularly the Realtors in the area. ■ For information on our readers’ plans to sell properties, buy vacation homes and more, contact me for a copy of the survey results or ask me about it if you see me at the next open house!
