March On!

Last March readers and the design community received the first issue of NYC&G with great enthusiasm. Newsstand sales have been increasing in efficiency with each issue, and we have added a sixth issue to 2013’s schedule. In Paris at the recent design extravaganza Maison et Objet, I was thrilled that the buzz about the magazine had even stretched across the Atlantic!

There was a different buzz in Dallas at the beginning of February, as the leadership of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Design Centers International (DCI), and Decorative Furnishings Association (DFA) met to discuss how to promote good design to readers and consumers. There is a world of fantastic products and talented designers out there, and the talk was about how to bring them together and improve the experience for all. Led by Cary Kravet (representing the DFA) and Randy Fizer, the CEO of ASID, the roundtable work sessions comprised designers, manufacturers, design center representatives, and the media, all of them collaborating on ways to improve customer access to good design.

Meanwhile, Kendell Cronstrom, our editor in chief, and Iris Dankner, founder and chairperson of Holiday House, the fantastic winter show house on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, are collaborating to bring the first Holiday House to the Hamptons this summer! Called Holiday House Hamptons, the gambrel- style home currently under construction in Bridgehampton will open with a gala on June 22 and be open to the public from June 23 to July 21. Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation founded by Evelyn Lauder. Sponsored by our sister publication HC&G, Holiday House Hamptons will be featured in the July 15 issue—the first time I recall a show house being published in a design magazine while the house is still open to the public, therefore attracting more people to see the home and support a worthy cause. See our announcement on page 96.
