If You Build It…
The word is out: architects are the new rock stars. Previously it was common to pass the names of our brokers or decorators around the table at dinner parties, and now it seems everyone is dropping the names of their architects. ■ More than 30 of those names were dropped in the most recent issue of HC&G alone, whether they advertised or were covered in editorial features on our pages. This growth and visibility not only reflects the surging real estate market, but also a certain friendly one-upmanship, as one fabulously designed house after another appears on the Hamptons horizon. ■ Credit is likely due in part to Herzog & de Meuron’s design for the new Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, which opened it’s doors last November to great fanfare and kicked up everyone’s game, fueling a desire for even more innovative architecture on the East End. ■ For just a taste of the extraordinary work architects are doing in the Hamptons these days, turn to page 30 for our coverage of the top four architectural projects honored at this year’s HC&G Innovation in Design Awards. Who will win the coveted trophies at next year’s IDAs and be talked about around the dinner table? Stay tuned.
