East v. West
I am asked all the time about the difference between “East Coast” and “West Coast” decorating styles. Certainly the volume of content published annually by our titles—125 feature stories on the East Coast and 30 on the West Coast—would qualify me to provide an answer. But it’s more complicated than that.
What a fascinating subject! To delve into it further, I’ll be moderating a panel discussion with four of today’s biggest designers at the beautiful Palecek showroom in the New York Design Center (NYDC) on September 22. Manhattan-based Amy Lau, known for her luxuriously detailed interiors, and Thom Filicia, a TV personality with upstate New York roots, will compare aesthetics with Jeffrey Alan Marks, a star of Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators, and San Francisco–based decorator and retailer Jay Jeffers. It’s all part of the NYDC’s annual What’s New, What’s Next open house, during which the building’s fabulous showrooms open their doors to the public and designers alike. Champagne flows, scrumptious food is on offer, and creative fun abounds. Why not make an afternoon of it?
