Tee Time

I grew up on golf courses in Scotland because that’s what we did there. No big deal. It seemed that all of the courses were open to us, and when I wasn’t running away from the sheep, it was lots of fun. ■ It is a bigger deal to get on a golf course around here, particularly the great ones. That’s why events such as the Pequot Library Golf Outing held in scenic Southport overlooking Long Island Sound are particularly attractive to duffers and bluffers alike. The course at the Country Club of Fairfield has been rated as “Best in State” by Golf Digest, and the day’s golfers are treated to a challenging game, a luncheon, contests and, of course, a post-golf cocktail reception. ■ Connecticut Cottages & Gardens is delighted to sponsor the event again this year, and all of the proceeds will benefit the Pequot Library. Of course, the silent auction features rounds of golf at exclusive courses around the country where the play is on manicured greens with fabulous landscaping and not a single sheep in sight! ■ See you on the 19th hole!
