Spring Flings

What an exhilarating few weeks it has been since our springtime launch of New York Cottages & Gardens! Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams of the eponymous furniture company hosted us at their stunning apartment 58 stories above Manhattan to toast Editor in Chief Kendell Cronstrom and the debut issue. The design-industry website Editor at Large was there, with the lovely Sophie Donelson (a Cottages & Gardens alum) interviewing everyone about the magazine. Bunny Williams, John Rosselli, Libby Langdon, Sherrill Canet, Eddie Ross, Stephanie Odegard, and more all had great things to say. Check it out on cottages-gardens.com.

We also revealed the top-secret identity of our first “Rising Star” design duo, Curious Yellow, and celebrated the occasion with a cocktail party, blogfest, and special designer windows at the Lillian August store downtown. In Scarsdale, we were feted at Klaff’s, where guests sipped Nicolas Feuillatte champagne and prowled around shimmering kitchen and bath displays.

NYC&G was the media sponsor of the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street, where the entire dining room was studded with fabulous designer tables. I came upon William Li of Ralph Lauren Home fluffing the feathers of designer Ally Coulter’s wrap, which she wore over a pale satin flapper-style dress. Ally designed the glam tablescape for Ralph Lauren with glittering dishes surrounding a confectionary centerpiece made to look like my favorite Newport cottage, Rosecliff, which was modeled after the Grand Trianon. One wag quipped that it gave new meaning to the expression “Let them eat cake!” As usual, and most important, lots of money was raised for a great cause.

We are all off to the Hamptons for the season, so look for HC&G all summer long and, before you know it, the next issue of NYC&G, out in September.
