The Write Stuff

“Imagine my shock, while strolling along Main Street in Bridge, when I looked at the stack of magazines and saw the cover. I nearly fainted and had to be revived by a Russian girl in front of Pierre’s, carrying a tray of smoothies,” wrote Philip Saunders upon seeing his home pictured on the cover of HC&G’s July 15 issue. I laughed out loud when I read this e-mail, and it made me think of the virtual avalanche of praise the magazine has received this season (kudos to Editor in Chief Kendell Cronstrom and his team). ■ Much of the feedback came from our “Artists & Collectors” issue (July 1), where a fresh-faced Cindy Sherman (arguably one of today’s greatest artists) smiled from the cover in a portrait so unexpected and revealing that many were moved to comment. “What a fabulous, fabulous, fantastic Cindy Sherman cover,” wrote Marian McEvoy, the former editor of Elle Decor and House Beautiful and a frequent contributor to C&G Publications. “Just wonderful.” ■ Madeline Weinrib wrote to comment on the publication of her Bridgehampton getaway in the same issue: “I think the article looks really great. In fact, the whole magazine does. I am receiving tons of calls.” ■ “Receiving tons of calls” is the comment we hear most often from companies and designers that appear in our magazines. We are delighted about that because it demonstrates the intimate connection we have with you, our readers. ■ And I was so pleased to walk into Comerford Collection in Bridgehampton recently, where owner Karen Comerford noted that she had sold half a dozen of Andy Stenerson’s blown-glass cylinder vases right after his work was featured in our June issue! We love to hear your thoughts, so keep the letters coming. I’ll take a bunch down to Pierre’s and enjoy them with a smoothie.
