Appreciation

Think about that little glow of pleasure you get when someone praises something you’ve done. It’s lovely, but doesn’t happen to us as much as it should.

This month, we’re in appreciation mode at NYC&G. Since its inception, the magazine has identified the industry’s up-and-coming design talents in its recurring Rising Star column (page 120), which Editor in Chief Kendell Cronstrom launched with the belief that our industry continues to be enriched by nurturing those who are just starting out. Many of our past Rising Stars have become big names in the design world, with impressive commissions and manufacturing contracts. To fête our Rising Stars from the past four years, the cutting-edge German kitchen company Eggersmann is presenting them all with awards at a special ceremony in its A&D Building showroom this month.

Another group also worthy of our appreciation this month: the winners, runners-up, and finalists for the third annual NYC&G Innovation in Design Awards. Our annual Winners’ Circle event coincides with the publication of their projects in the magazine (page 25), and in a break with tradition (pun intended!), the New Traditionalists—who make what I call funky, traditional custom furniture—is hosting all past and present IDA winners at a special Champagne dinatoire.
We hope that the design professionals attending these events will feel that glow of pleasure when they see how deeply we value them.
